Alongside this recognition, Shyronie Davis, Founder of Rooted Wisdom CIC and psychodynamic practitioner, was invited to contribute to an interdisciplinary conference responding to Bashy’s Being Poor Is Expensive, hosted online and in person at the iconic Roundhouse, Camden.
Her presentation, “How Black Men Lose Their Smile: A Psychodynamic Reflection on Grief, Resistance, and the Unseen Self,”
explored how structural inequality, racialised expectations, and unprocessed grief shape Black male emotional life. Drawing on clinical and frontline work with young men in custodial and community settings, the talk examined how joy and vulnerability are often suppressed as survival strategies — and how therapeutic spaces can offer an alternative narrative rooted in recognition and care.
The conference brought together academics, practitioners, artists, musicians, and educators to explore the cultural, political, and psychological significance of the album as a modern Black British text.

The discussion focused on lived experience, systemic inequality, and the importance of culturally responsive approaches within justice and care settings.

Rooted Wisdom Launch – Brixton (2024)
Rooted Wisdom CIC officially launched in April 2024 with a community event held in Brixton, marking the beginning of the organisation’s work supporting young people and families through culturally grounded, trauma-informed practice.
The launch brought together community members, practitioners, and supporters to introduce Rooted Wisdom’s vision and values, with a focus on healing, identity, and emotional resilience within Black and marginalised communities. The event was attended and covered by The Voice Newspaper, one of the UK’s leading Black newspapers, helping to amplify the organisation’s mission at an early stage of its development.
This launch represented a significant milestone, grounding Rooted Wisdom in community, culture, and collective intention from the outset.

Invited Speaker: Business & Community Connections Event – Royal Borough of Greenwich (April 2025)
In April 2025, Shyronie Davis, Founder of Rooted Wisdom CIC, was invited to speak at a Business and Community Connections event led by the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
The event brought together local businesses, community organisations, and strategic partners to strengthen collaboration and highlight impactful grassroots work across the borough. Shyronie was invited to contribute a presentation as part of a wider session delivered by CNT Associates, with the invitation extended by Gary Parker.
During the session, Shyronie presented the work of Rooted Wisdom CIC, outlining the organisation’s mission, programmes, and growing impact. She spoke about Rooted Wisdom’s trauma-informed, culturally grounded approach to supporting young people and families, with a particular focus on racial identity, emotional wellbeing, and community-based healing.
The presentation generated strong interest and visibility for Rooted Wisdom CIC, contributing to increased public awareness and strengthening local connections across Greenwich. The invitation reflected early recognition of Rooted Wisdom as a credible and emerging organisation within local authority and professional spaces.
This one-hour online conversation is part of the Black Women Therapists In Conversation series, supported by Black Women Therapists UK, in the lead-up to their 2025 conference. Hosted by Mary Pascall, the session features Shyronie Davis, CEO of Rooted Wisdom CIC, a psychodynamic psychotherapist and trauma-informed practitioner working with young Black boys across prisons, schools, and community settings.
The conversation explores psychodynamic and trauma-informed approaches to working with young Black boys in the UK criminal justice system, while also addressing the systemic barriers, isolation, and microaggressions Black women practitioners often face in this work. Participants are invited to reflect, engage, and bring their questions into a supportive and culturally grounded space led by Black women practitioners.
